Biography
In the paintings by Amy Bird, there are no qualifying characteristics inherent in any given subject matter. Cultural, historical, political or personal judgmental evaluations are formed solely by what the subject incites in the viewers mind. Bird lives in Southern California, a region rife with potentially contentious subject matter. She chooses what is most interesting to her - the overlap of the natural world and the landscaped one, as well as the space between. Through stylistic intention, she then renders her subjects into objects, neutralizing them, draining them of emotion, and in doing so, hopes to offer the viewer the opportunity to decide- to see as a Buddhist might, objectively, detached, or to bring to the viewing their own filters and subjectivities.

Amy Bird grew up in Ojai, California. She received her BA in painting from Dartmouth College and her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work has been exhibited throughout the United States. She lives and works in Studio City, California
